Cast Iron Barbells

What Are Cast Iron Barbells? The first thing that probably comes to mind is an Olympic bar bent over the shoulders of a chap assuming the squat position with a pile of Olympic plates on each side clinging and clanging like some medieval wind chime. Yes, an Olympic barbell is a cast iron barbell of sorts sporting many different plate and bar options. Before the grip plate entered the scene in the 1990’s, most plate choices were rather simple and bland for these sets. Your two basic choices were black and gray. Barbell manufacturers still offer these tried and true muscle builders but have added quite a bit to the mix by casting numerous grip holes strategically positioned in these newly designed plates which can be round or slotted to better fit the hands. While Olympic barbell sets are adjustable, you’ll also find fixed weight options. Just like their pro-style dumbbell counterparts, these fixed barbells are constructed using a solid steel bar with internally threaded ends. Cast iron plates are added to each side of the bar and held tight by a large Allan bolt and end cap. Your bar choices are straight and curled which both feature a knurled surface to help sweaty hands keep their grip. Ten of these barbells at a time can be placed on a barbell rack to allow easy access to multiple users.
