What is Core Training
Core training is essentially strengthening your mid section as well as your middle and lower back. The "core" actually consists of many different muscles that stabilize the spine and pelvis and run the entire length of the torso. These muscles stabilize the spine, pelvis and shoulder and provide a solid foundation for movement in the extremities.

Why do Core Training
Many of us have office jobs and sit eight to nine hours a day. Add another hour or two of driving time and that adds up to a lot of sitting. Prolonged sitting and no exercise weakens the muscles of your midsection. A Core Program can be helpful in supporting good posture, managing back pain, and increasing sports performance. And, having a strong core can also support the hip, knee, and ankle joints below the core and the upper-back, shoulders, and neck above the core.

Strengthening the Core Muscles
There are many exercises that will strengthen the core, as well as exercise equipment that will aid this training. Some of the best products for developing core strength include:

  • Medicine Balls
  • Kettlebells
  • Stability Balls
  • Balance Products such as the Bosu Ball, balance boards, wobble boards and others
  • Dumbbells

Yoga is also an excellent way for athletes to build core strength. Body weight exercises are also very effective for developing core strength. For a simple core strength program you can begin with push-ups and crunches, but work with a trainer to find the exercises that work best for you.
