Interlocking Rubber Tiles

Interlocking Rubber Gym Flooring Tiles are designed to absorb weight impact caused by free weight equipment. Damaged floors and equipment can result from dropping heavy dumbbells and barbells in homes or gyms and therefore have to be protected. Depending on the free weight equipment being used, and the budget involved, there are different solutions that are perfect for everybody. Rubber gym tiles are easy to install as they are a “loose lay” solution, which means there is no need for adhesive.

What tile thickness is best? This depends on what type of equipment or activities it will need to endure. When using light weights or fitness equipment in a home or training studio, ¼” interlocking gym tiles are sufficient and the thinner material will help cut costs. For locations that use moderately heavy free weights, 3/8” tiles are common and work well. For any area that will experience extremely heavy weight drop, the most shock resistant interlocking flooring options should be used. ½” and ¾” thick rubber can be used as a standalone solution in free weight areas and under power cages or it can be installed on top of existing rubber flooring for even more protection to the sub-floor.

What tile material is best? For many, this boils down to budget. Bright colors, such as solid reds and blues, are made from virgin rubber. As one can imagine, these are typically the most expensive. Virgin rubber interlocking tiles have a high tensile strength and resist tearing and therefore perform well under the high stress of heavy weight drop and traffic. Vulcanized rubber is recycled tire rubber that has been heated to a high temperature. This high heat causes the vulcanization effect which greatly increases the tensile strength, even more so than virgin rubber, and gives the surface a smoother, less porous appearance than recycled flooring that is not vulcanized. Recycled rubber flooring that is not vulcanized is very durable, but has the lowest tensile strength of the three choices and is the most affordable. This product, as with vulcanized, can be produced in thicknesses up to ¾” which makes it very versatile for all types of weight lifting in any type of facility.

Did you know that rubber puzzle tiles are commonly used in dog daycare facilities and even ice and hockey rinks?
