Recycled Rubber Dumbbell Mats in Bulk 4' x 6' x 3/8" – Ultimate RB Rubber (RB-4638)
Mat Truing available for bulk purchases
4' x 6' x 3/8" Rubber Dumbbell Mats by Ultimate RB Rubber - Using rubber mats for dumbbell training is a reasonably affordable way to protect your floors at home or in your fitness studio if dumbbells are dropped while using a dumbbell bench. The 4' x 6' size provides a large enough space for impact and the 3/8" thickness will provide enough protection to wood and concrete floors for dumbbells weighing as much as 50 lbs. As a rule you never want to drop or throw dumbbells under any circumstance. There are techniques to use while dumbbell training that avoids this and makes your workout area safer, especially for other members in close proximity. But if it does happen a good set of rubber gym mats will protect your floors and your equipment from damage. Need dumbbell mats that can handle heavier weight impact than a 3/8" mat? Increase the thickness to 1/2" or even 3/4". 3/4" thick mats are used for weight lifting platforms and very heavy free weight areas in commercial gyms. All these can be found on the IRON COMPANY® website.
What type of fitness equipment is suitable for a 3/8" thick mat? - A 3/8" thick gym mat works well for light to moderate weight drop in homes, studios and clubs. Place them under weight benches, dumbbell racks and squat racks. Consistently heavy weight drops are not recommended for this thickness. As an example, if you're dropping 100 lb.+ dumbbells and performing Olympic barbell lifts such as deadlifts, consider one of our thicker mats such as a 3/4" to fully protect your floors and equipment.
Are there any other uses for a 3/8" rubber gym mat? - Absolutely. Believe it or not some people like to use them under their washer and dryer to absorb vibration and keep them from inching across the room. Besides that, recycled rubber mats made from crumb rubber and urethane are very resilient and even slip resistant when wet and can be used in the back of truck beds, on decks, on walkways, in horse trailers, etc. The applications are almost endless.
Using multiple 4' x 6' x 3/8" rubber mats to cover an entire floor:
For complete floor protection under your free weight and cardio equipment areas, recycled rubber gym equipment mats will do the job and then some. And since the mats are so big and heavy there is no need to use adhesive. Normally during the manufacturing process block mats are cut by hand, and are not always going to be exact dimensions in length and width, or have edges that are totally squared. In the case of a single mat or only a few mats, this is not generally noticeable. However, when multiple mats are laid side-by-side and end-to-end across a gym floor, the end user may experience small gaps here and there resulting from less precisely cut edges being positioned next to each other. These gaps can trap dust and dirt, and in general create a less than ideal visual appearance. In many livestock and other industrial applications where function outweighs aesthetics (such as horse stalls and machine shops) this does not matter. However, in a fitness setting (such as a crossfit box, commercial fitness center, or military base gym) where 4' x 6' or even 4' x 8' block mats are utilized as "jumbo" loose-lay tiles to cover a large surface area of flooring, a more finished look is often desired. In this bulk purchase scenario it is recommended to have the mats "trued" to actual size during manufacturing. The process of “truing” via sonic cutting puts the mats through a very precise method of production for exact sizing and sharp edges, allowing exact consistency from mat to mat and eliminating gaps and any other seam inconsistencies when installed. When requesting your flooring quote, let your IRON COMPANY® flooring sales rep know if your mats need to be trued.
