Additionally, a black oxide coating is thinner than chrome plating which can help enhance the grip in areas that include a diamond knurl. The 7' long OB-85B Olympic barbell has a finish consisting of black oxide throughout the entire bar including the gripping area and sleeves. The 51.5" gripping area between the bar shoulders is optimal for squatting and benching leaving plenty of room for a wide grip.
